A Mesmerizing Season
Every fall season, the color festival that sparks up the foliage is a good enough reason in itself to make the Qu閎ec City region your Canadian destination to travel. However, it is certainly not the only reason and you should plan a longer trip in order to fully enjoy it!
OUTDOORS
With the Jacques-Cartier National Park and the many exciting and accessible natural sites, the choice is endless in the region for hikers and/or photography lovers. Mont-Sainte-Anne features The Great Color Adventure: a veritable festival of colors with a spicy autumn program of outdoor shows, sport competitions and personal challenges, a rally, events at night... all the while taking this amazing palette of colors!
Those who enjoy wildlife watching will not want to miss the thousands of snow geese at the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area. At Les Sept Chutes, seven water falls roll down a 128 meter escarpment in a thunderous roar, cascading through gorges carved within the bedrock of one of Quebec's most beautiful natural sites. The nearby Sainte-Anne Canyon is best viewed on the easy and accessible paths and their 3 suspension bridges, one being among the highest in Qu閎ec, at 60 m above the gorge! A memorable sight in the fall! Even in town, as you step out of the hotel, the number of city parks will enchant the outdoor fanatics : the Plains of Abraham, the Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge, the Domaine Maizerets? the choice is yours.
SPORTS
Sports fans travelling in the region will enjoy a great vacation with the start of the Quebec Remparts hockey season and the International Challenge Bell tennis tournament around the end of October and the beginning of November. But autumn would not be autumn without football: come join the hundreds of people who flock to the capital from all over the province to experience the excitement and the hype surrounding the Rouge et Or, already four times university champions in Canada despite being recently formed. Obviously, other members of the family will be more inclined to be part of the action rather than to watch it: what better time than fall, when it is neither too hot or too cold, to grab your bicycle and ride on one of the cycle paths or even to try out one of the region抯 golf courses?
CULTURE
September is also the month for cultural premieres: concert halls, exhibitions and theaters are alive with activities. At the Mus閑 national des beaux arts du Qu閎ec, jump on the unique opportunity to admire the canvases and drawings of Pablo Picasso belonging to the extraordinary collection of the Mus閑 Picasso (Antibes). Each fall since 1997, the magnificent church of Saint-Roch has been host to the Qu閎ec City Festival of Sacred Music. From Gospel music to Gregorian chants, from Corsican polyphony to old music, the Festival features music inspired by the world抯 many spiritual traditions, performed by artists of international fame. It抯 a celebration of beauty! Why not make your night out even more memorable by starting it with a nice meal at one of those restaurants that never fails to treat the customer with fresh seasonal products for an experience bursting with originality and taste.
AGROTOURISM
However, it is not the only way to bite into the autumnal season: orchards, vineyards, small-scale home-made beer, cider, berry based wine and mead are among the things visitors are greatly encouraged to go "pick-their-own" or to taste on the spot. Picturesque 蝜e d'Orl閍ns is without a doubt a must for this kind of experience. Also, don't miss the different outdoor markets of the region where they lay out their goods.
About two and half hours away from Montr閍l and easy to travel to by plane, train and the road network, the Qu閎ec region and city is a must for travellers who wish to discover a challenging destination. You are welcome to have a look at the different autumn package holidays provided by the members of Qu閎ec City Tourism. |
