2003-12-18,thursday,8:00-10:00pm
North clubhouse in junjing garden.
There were 19 members participating the EC. The list was: LiLi Wang, Kathy, L66, Robert Luo, Sean, Robert Wu, Toby, Freer, Cat Wang, Gavin, Amy, Little Robert, Sally, Connie, Stephen, Jade, Sara, Manna and Mr. Xie.
1. Idioms learning
We learned two idioms last night and here were the details.
"out of the frying pan and into the fire"
To go out of the frying pan and into the fire is to get out of one difficult situation only to end up in another. Example: "Mary's ex-boyfriend was terrible, but this new one is even worse!" Reply: "Out of the frying pan and into the fire."
"when pigs fly"
When pigs fly is an informal way to joke that you will never do something or something will never happen. Example: "Do you think the sun will rise from the west?" Reply: "When pigs fly!"
Pigs are heavy animals that stay close to the ground and do not fly, so when pigs fly is a time that will never come. Example: "Do you think Tom will be successful?" Reply: "When pigs fly he will."
2. Topic discussing
Do you agree young lovers should live together before they get married or not? Why?
The two groups chose the same topic to discuss although there were three given topics. So we could see how hot and popular the topic was! Thank LiLi to give us the interesting topic!
To my surprise, most people at last night's EC thought it was good for lovers living together before they get married. They believed it would be helpful to learn each other better and avoid divorcing after they married. There were also a few people still felt it was not good and unfair to the girls.
However, the lovers live together before married is more and more popular in our society, and this idea is accepted by more and more people. But to the young lovers, living together is not only sunshine and enjoying; they must face a lot of problems as well. So, if you want to live with your lover before married, please think it twice.
